Shrine table turns hot

when i first saw this image, i was immediately drawn to the hot pink. then i wondered why this reminded me so much of the stands they have in Japanese shrines. so when i read the product name "shrine flat-table," it completely made sense. turns out the design is based on a shrine table and created by Sschemata Architecture of Japan.

According to their website, the idea to pour resin came from an irritating experience with an uneven surface on a wooden table top in their office. What's fascinating is that although the top is flattened and smoothed, the bright colors appear in different density across the surface depending on the wood, emphasizing the irregular depths even more.  the colors are just mesmerizing...

100 layer cake

I haven't done a wedding related post in awhile so today i think i will introduce one of my favorite wedding blogs.  i used to go though the 100 layer cake even before i was engaged just for the beautiful images.  its incredible how creative some people are.  the women behind this awesome website calls it "a unique wedding planning resource for and by thoughtful, crafty, modern women"

they introduce some amazing real weddings under their blog.

yum: bon gout

bon gout is officially my favorite japanese joint in all of singapore! ボンゴウ、さいこー!  from the outside what appears to be a used bookstore in the quiet corner of robertson quay is actually a restaurant serving food that will remind any japanese of their mom's cooking. ask the friendly owner, mr. kojima for recommendations and he will tell you about their signature dishes.  but honestly, everything is soo good. this is one case where i'm more in to the food even though the restaurant decor has a pretty cool concept.

all japanese books except a little sections for english.  there's a huge section for japanese comics too.  I was excited about the dozens of most up-to-date japanese women's magazines.   those cost soo much here, i think i'll just come back to bon gout every month and read it there ;)

10 years/10 icons at space

i visited the newly opened space showroom located  in the brand new white bungalow on bencoolen.  feels like you are entering a temple of furniture.  before the opening, i was always curious why a construction site had temporary walls around it with a silhouette of the artichoke light. now i know.  i'm aware of the hefty price, so i won't even pretend to shop, i'm just here to enjoy being surrounded by some of the most iconic furniture in the world of design.

im in love with this Louis Poulsen Snow lamp by Louise Campbell

richard rogers: from the house to the city

Richard Roger says, “Singapore is one of the most important and beautiful urban hubs in the world. We’re delighted to have been given the opportunity to showcase our work in a city that places such a strong emphasis on encouraging good architecture and urban design. Good design can help address many social and environmental concerns and improve the quality of our lives. We hope that this exhibition will highlight and spur on greater discourse on the importance of creating distinctive buildings and public spaces that are fundamental to better living.”

how did i not know about this exhibit until now.  well, i'm just glad i caught it in time.  The Richard Rogers + Architects: From the House to the City exhibit at the ura covers over 40 years of his work.  all with models, drawing and photos.  i didn't except such an extensive display of projects! i can go on about it but if you care enough to read, you probably want to go down yourself!

i thought this looked familiar.. 88 wood street.  then i remembered the awful group project in school where we had to build a model of this building based on just a few drawings with no scale.  seeing all the complex models at the exhibit made me realize how cruel that assignment was.  and i wonder where it went....

the exhibit totally matches my blog :)

15 minutes

since i live in the neighborhood, i can always make a quick trip to 15 minutes at la salle for a fresh salad or sandwich whenever im hungry. i like sitting here and gazing out to the school courtyard surrounded by the erratically angled glass walls. feels like you're in some warped glass universe.  it's a creative dining space for a creative school.

it's also a bar with live music at night.

yong siak street ♥

i am sooo happy i went for lunch at forty hands in tiong bahru because i ended up finding two amazing stores, all on the same street.  i never even knew this place existed.  i love shopping at small alleys in tokyo with the coolest zakka shops but i never expected to find anything like it in singapore... even thought its only two shops and a cafe, i'm totally excited. first stop, Strangelets.

I have to quote their philosophy stated on the website because its EXACTLY how i feel and EXACTLY what i hope to do one day.  i'm happy to learn that there are teams like this in singapore.

"As interior designers and architects, we discovered that we were rarely able to find furnishings to add focus to our projects. We found ourselves fighting against a market that’s split between Euro-modern luxury and that certain company whose name starts with "I".
So we took the matter into our own hands. We traveled the world to bring back a different kind of quality: the quality of uniqueness. An escape from the dullness of hyper-mega mass production. In various studios in various cities, we found makers and suppliers of singularly charming and clever items, who impressed us with a new take on old problems.

And we did what anyone would have done. We threw money at them. And in return, they went to work to produce a beautiful, eclectic collection for us."

next stop is BooksActually ... its one of those shop that makes you feel like a kid at a candy store. everything made me smile or laugh.

very retro items for sale at the back of the bookstore.  its so fun just looking at these old items

beautiful by nature

i was looking for flowers to use in my wedding and came across some amazing images.  i think these will be beautiful in your bouquet or centerpiece.  my choices are down to peonies, dahlias or ranunculus.  anyone know a good place to find them in singapore?  i don't remember seeing something so fancy at the far east flora.

sway

the coolest rocking chair i've ever seen.  markus krauss created a rocking chair both large enough and strong enough to fit two people. how fun :) the telescoping ram locks the chair in position when the rocking function is not needed.

yum: egg yolk bun

i like the man fu yuan dim sum at the intercontinental hotel overall, but i'm a frequent visitor for just one reason: their egg yolk bun!!  after their recent renovation, the waiter told me the bun is even better now.  its sooo rich and creamy. mmmm.... oh, and its not listed on their menu so you'll have to ask.
